Nietzche challenged foundations of Christianity and traditional mortality. The basics to his philosophy is the idea of“life-affirmation,” which involves an honest questioning of all doctrines that drain life's expansive energies. He was often referred to as one of the first existentialist philosophers. Nietzsche's first book was published in 1872 and was called The Birth of Tragedy, Out of the Spirit of Music (Die Geburt der Tragödie aus dem Geiste der Musik), concerning the understanding of Greek culture.
